About the Lake

  • Myth has it that there are 365 islands on the lake. A polygon count of the land areas on the chart reveals the true figure at normal water levels to be closer to 1240. This varies with height of water; some islands merge together as the water level drops, and others appear


  • 2010 Soundings, deepest depth recorded: 166.1ft as of 20/03/'10, South of Cloonbrone on Doorus peninsular


  • In the northern part of the Corrib, about 10% (or possibly less) of the bottom structure is rock - the rest is actually featureless mud
