Installing the Maps

Garmin GPSMAP Series

The easiest way to install CorribCharts on the GPSMAP Series GPS unit is to install it using MapSource. Obtaining MapSource is explained on the " Installing the maps on a PC" page. You will also need to have a memory card for your GPS. Depending on the GPS you will need either an SD Card (G2 Devices) or a Garmin Data Card (Usually BlueChart Devices) - It is your own responsibility to know which data card your GPS accepts (Please do not e-mail us asking)

1) Connect your GPS to your PC using whatever cable came with the unit (Usually USB) and ensure that the unit has the correct drivers installed

2) Open MapSource and make sure you have selected the Corrib map

3) When the CorribCharts are on the screen, select the 'Map Tool' button in MapSource

4) Highlight the map by left-clicking (once) any area of the map (It should change colour slightly)

5) Click: "Transfer => Send to Device" and the window 'Send to Device' should appear

6) After a couple of seconds, your unit should appear in the Drop-Down menu. If not, click the "Find Device" button (If your GPS still does not appear, there is a driver problem, or the GPS unit is powered off)

7) Once your device appears on the Drop-Down menu, ensure the 'Maps' check-box is checked, and then click "Send"

8) Once transfer has completed, the GPS can be disconnected from PC. CorribCharts is now installed on the GPS

Garmin Nuvi

CorribCharts requires a different image to work properly on the Nuvi models as it is not a marine orientated GPS. If you requested the Nuvi version of CorribCharts, an extra file will be contained in the CorribCharts folder called "gmapsupp.img"

1) Install CorribCharts as per instructions here

2) By default, CorribCharts will install to C:\CorribCharts. Go to the folder C:\CorribCharts\G2-NUVI-FILE and copy the "gmapsupp.img" file (Right-Click file and select 'Copy')

3) Connect the Nuvi to your PC (USB cable). The GPS Unit should appear as a 'Removable Drive' in 'My Computer'

4) In 'My Computer' double-click the GPS Unit 'Removable Device' and paste "gmapsupp.img" into the "Garmin" folder

The CorribCharts image is now installed on your Nuvi GPS but they will be over-lapping the current road maps which are installed on the GPS. You must switch between Road and Marine mode depending on what you are using your GPS for. This is done in a few very simple steps:

1) On the main screen of the Nuvi, press the SPANNER icon (located near the top right of the screen)

2) Press 'Map'

3) Press 'Map Info'

4) Check the 'Corrib' option, and un-check all other maps

5) Click 'Back' and return to the screen where you will now see the CorribCharts on the screen

When you want to return the GPS to Road mode, repeat steps 1 to 3 and in step 4 do the opposite of what you did above ie. Un-check 'Corrib' and check all others

NOTE: The above steps were carried out on a Nuvi 670. Other Nuvi models may have a slightly different menu layout

Garmin G2 Compatible Units

The newer Garmin G2 compatible units usually come with pre-loaded maps so do not have a USB interface meaning there is no easy way of connecting the GPS to a PC (You can connect via NMEA but that is a totally different subject). However, CorribCharts can still be installed on these newer generation units with the use of an SD Card by uploading the gmapsupp.img to the card, in a similar way to manually uploading the image to the Nuvi.

To install CorribCharts on a newer generation Garmin G2 compatible device, follow these steps:

1) Open up the C:\CorribCharts\G2-NUVI-FILE folder (or wherever you installed them to) and COPY the "gmapsupp.img" file

2) Insert the SD Card into your PC/Laptop/Card Reader and it should appear as a 'Removable Device' in 'My Computer'

3) Create a folder on the SD card called "Garmin"

3) Paste "gmapsupp.img" onto the newly created "Garmin" folder on the SD Card

4) Insert SD Card into your GPS and the CorribCharts will be installed

Other GPS Units

CorribCharts is available for other GPS units. When you Request a Copy please give full details of your unit and we will get in touch with you
